How Does the FreeRxPlus Prescription Savings Card Work?

What kind of discounts will I receive with the card?

Who can use FreeRxPlus?
Everyone with limited or no prescription drug coverage can benefit from FreeRxPlus. Instead of paying full retail price for medication, card holders can save up to 75%, while the average savings is 35%. Individuals who already have insurance coverage may still find the card useful, as it can provide discounts on medications that are not covered by their health plan or provide a lower cost than your health plan for many generics. Senior citizens enrolled in Medicare can also use the program when they are in the “doughnut hole”.

What medications are covered by FreeRxPlus?

What are the restrictions to FreeRxPlus?
There are no restrictions, eligibility, activation, or enrollment necessary. Every FreeRxPlus card is active and ready to use at the pharmacy.

Can I get pricing over the internet?

What if my pharmacist said the card would not save me any money?
As a FreeRxPlus Card cardholder, you are entitled to the absolute lowest price at the pharmacy. Your pharmacist will not know what the card savings will be until the prescription is sent to us for pricing via the pharmacist's computer. If your Pharmacist does not want to comply with the program, you should consider going to a pharmacy that honors the card. In 80% of previous transactions, the price will be significantly lower than any retail or sale price you would receive without the card. If a brand name or generic drug is available through your participating pharmacy at a lower price than the scheduled price, you will always pay the lower of the two prices.

What is this program and how can it help me?

The FREE FreeRxPlus Prescription, Laboratory and Imaging Program is a program that benefits the uninsured, underinsured, lapse in Medicaid coverage and for Medicare Part D participants.  Simply present this card to a participating pharmacy when you drop off a prescription and receive a discount on your medication.  If you need a blood test, MRI or CAT scan you will need a detailed doctors order already written  to have at hand when calling to make your appointment for that service with your discount applied (up to 50% off retail).

Are your prescribed medications not covered by Medicare?

Some part D plans have a formulary of covered medications and may exclude certain categories of medications.  With the FreeRxPlus Prescription Savings Program, no FDA approved medication is excluded.  You can receive discounts on the medication that work best for you!

What is the Medicare Part D "doughnut hole?"

The Medicare Part D coverage gap, often referred to as the "doughnut hole," is the period of time during the coverage year (Jan - Dec) when you are responsible for paying all drug costs out-of-pocket.  When you fall into this doughnut hole, you are responsible for the full cost of prescription drugs plus you must continue to pay your Part D premium even though you are not receiving the benefits!

Can I use this FreeRxPlus card along with my health insurance?

Well if you are like me and still have private health insurance then you might not need to use the card.  Unless the same thing that happened to me happens to you then by all means please carry it with you.  I had to go to CVS in February 2012 to get for my oldest son his prescription for Bromfed DM.  My insurance denied coverage for the drug because it was considered to be over the counter medication.  So I've decided to use the FreeRxCard and it helped me out with a seventeen dollar discount.  I had to pay cash forty nine dollars for the Bromfed DM after the discount was applied.  So even though you may carry health insurance a situation like that may occur.  Don't forget to check what your health insurance covers when it comes to lab tests and imaging.  This card also provides a discount up to 50% for those services.  Maybe today you will say "Nah I'm good" but tommorow might bring a situation where you might need to have the FreeRxPlus card with you.

Who is my FreeRxPlus representative?

Hello my name is Dennis Shepard.  I live in Brownsville, Texas, USA.  Since my strongest interest was science, I chose to study medical laboratory technology at Texas Southmost College/UTB and graduated with a degree in 1997.  I've worked as a medical laboratory technician for fourteen years.  I've been very lucky to have worked with many health care professionals throughout my years which led me to have good interpersonal relationships with them. Well I've seen a few changes in health care.  One good example would be the increase of access to health care by the opening of new private practice.  I've seen the emergence of new physician offices, clinics, and hospitals in South Texas.  But will that change once the new health care reform is in full effect?  Apart from working as a medical technologist I also work as an independent representative for FreeRxPlus.  This company provides free pharmacy, laboratory, and imaging discount cards to the public.  I've never seen or heard of any program like this in my fourteen years working in the clinical lab.  I've been a consumer and had to purchase prescription medicine such as antibiotics, allergy, nebulizers, pain and blood pressure medications for my family.  So I believe everyone at sometime in their life goes to a pharmacy and spend money on medicine.  I recommend that you get this free card from me if you do not have health insurance.  As a FreeRxPlus representative it is my job to inform the public of current health care issues and make known this free program.   It won't be easy to give cards to everyone who is in real need of this free program.  The Rio Grande Valley has a history of  being more poor compared to other areas of the nation.
