What is Legionnaires' Disease?

In 1976, an American Legion conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania turned deadly when 221 men developed a new mysterious disease. This disease killed 34 of those men.

Legionnaires' disease is a serious and potentially fatal infection of the lungs.

Landlords and business owners can help control the spread of the legionella bacteria by using treated and sterile water in cooling, HVAC, and water heating units. Homeowners and business owners who operate pools, fountains, and spas should regularly clean and maintain equipment.
