My oldest son and my wife had brought home a puppy from the pound.  When it was time to take the dog for neutering at the shelter they said she had a runny nose and a cold.  They were unable to do the surgery that day.  I took our dog to the veterinarian and the diagnosis was viral distemper.  The veterinarian said that viral distemper is usually acquired from being at the pound and also suggested for us to feed the puppy scraps, dog food and plenty of water.  Blackie did have seizures and a fever temperature of 102 F.  I told the veterinarian that I use the FreeRxPlus card for our prescriptions and had asked if a human equivalent drug could be prescribed for Blackie.  The veterinarian prescribed an antibiotic called Cephalexin for her cold and runny nose.  I took the prescription to the H.E.B. pharmacy in Brownsville because I know they handle pet prescriptions also just like Walmart.  The retail price of the drug was $24.00 and the discounted price after using the FreeRxPlus card was $14.00.  The extra $10.00 in savings helped me to pay the vet bill. I had to bring back Blackie for a follow up about 2 weeks later.  I had also given Blackie silver sol in addition to her antibiotics, food, water, love and attention.  Most puppies with distemper have a great risk of death so I've decided to share our silver sol with her also.  It may have had a synergistic effect for combating her respiratory infection. I'd mix her dry food with silver sol and then giver her antibiotics 2x a day.  The veterinarian was impressed by her condition, weight and vigor.  We are still waiting and monitoring her condition until the vet clears her for neutering as required when adopting a pet from the city shelter.
