What Personal Health Care Choices Have I Made So Far?

If you've followed me enough times you'd know that I still do not participate with an employer's health care plan.  I started as part time relief worker after been laid off for awhile and would purchase short term insurance (during unemployment and upon hire) for myself and the kids.  Later I've joined MediShare (a Christian Health Care Sharing Ministry ; is not insurance) in response to the ACA forced mandate and was concerned about the loss of choice in my health care.  Also again from past experiences (mergers and layoffs) and getting burnt I don't want to lose my health care on the exact date I get laid off or fired.  If I have the money to send monthly shares then I still have coverage.  I'd rather borrow a little from credit than to be bitten by a COBRAđź’€(get it?).  What about dental?  What have I done about that?  I have kept a personal dental discount plan for many years called the YDB plan and it has worked out good for me. I've already sent my kids for their checkups, done oral surgery for my impacted wisdom teeth and a root canal.  My oldest son's fees for his wisdom teeth extraction were also discount by 50%.   I believe that discounted direct pay is less hassle , much simpler and affordable if you're ready to get out of the insurance must pay for everything boxed mindset.  What about prescription medicines?  I've also used this prescription discount card to help me save money.  Yes, there are others but this one on many occasions has saved me the most money.  How about laboratory tests?  I'd recommend if over 18 years and computer savvy to do business with WalkInLab or DirectLab online discount lab tests.  There have been many times I just walk in and get my blood drawn much quicker than those waiting for insurance to pay for it.  In/out whammo it's done and out you go your own business to later view your results online and e-fax to your doctors office.  If you have a minor in care LabCorp does offer discounts if paid in full.  I can't say that insurance is bad because I've had it for many years and it helped me out quite a bit but this is where I'm at now.
